For the last 25+ years, I have been a photographer/videographer/video producer and video editor. Most
of my work has been musicians, models, conventions/event and wedding photography. I've had the pleasure of
working with great people, great talent and great companies like Air France, AirTouch, American General, Basic American Foods , Chips and Technologies, Compaq Computers, Foster Farms, Genentech, Glen Ellen,
Intel, Robert Mondavi, Monsanto, Ortho, Pepsi, Piper Jaffery and the Shaklee
Corporation to name a few.
I became interested in photography when I was in eighth grade after discovering
the works of Ansel Adams. When I was in high school I received my first camera from my father. It was a polaroid land camera. I said but Dad, "
Where are the F-stops and how the hell do I load 35mm film into this. My
father, Paul Crowley told me" Never mind , this camera will give you
the opportunity to learn perspective and composition". After about
a year I then used a Pentax K1000 that I had borrowed from St. Mary's College Prep. It was
two years later while attending McAteer High that I owned my own SLR camera.,
it was a old Nikkormat. I still have it to this day, but hardly ever use
it. Most of my work is taken using two Nikon F3 's and a Nikon FM, not to forget my Marlboro Canon Owl (dont laugh it takes great pics).
At first, nature and people were my fist interests. Nature, because I wanted
to follow the works of Ansel Adams and people because the house that I was
raised in was like a grand central station for some very interesting characters.
It was when I attended a concert in 1977 when I realized what I wanted to photograph.
I have always loved music and photography and thought I could
combine the two. I have to this day photographed and worked with
such bands as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff,
Third World, The Wailers and ZZ-TOP to name a few.
It wasn't until the summer of 1987 while I was in college that I got a call
from my father Paul telling me to come back to San Francisco to work for him.
His photographer had started his own business and he need someone to shoot
in the Napa Valley that weekend. So, I pack my things and returned to San
Francisco. It was at Media West (now known as Trofie Productions) that I learned commercial photography. Trofie Productions is a company specializing in corporate communications. My job was to
go on site with a script and or a story board and get all the visuals needed
for the slide shows. As well, as going on the road with these companies
to photograph their National Sales Meetings. Thank you for stopping by and
feel free to e-mail me if you have any comments, questions, complaints or inquires.
Cheers,
Jim Crowley
